I've seen it reported from several sources now that Carrie Underwood will star as Maria von Trapp in NBC's live broadcast of "The Sound of Music" late next year. I think this is pretty big deal for her. What do you all think?

That's a pretty big role........and a LIVE broadcast, no less. Carrie's obviously a seasoned performer, but I don't think her acting experience is that extensive. It's kind of a coup for her.

I think this will be a major challenge for Carrie. There's no doubt she has a lovely voice and the sweet looks, but I do hope she'll be taking acting lessons! This is a major opportunity to open up a new entertainment venue. The casting of Mother Superior and the Captain will be important. Carrie is a great singer, and I wish her much success with this new project!

Are you sure it is "Live". This is a long "movie". How could they pull off a "Live" performance of this?
Either way, I agree that the "Acting" portion is where we hope Carrie is ready for. I will be watching for sure!!
P.S. Is this going to be "Live on Tape" like they do sitcoms?

I guess we'll know how "live" it is when we see how many commercial interruptions there are.

Egggggggggzzzzzzactly. If it's truly LIVE that will be a colossal undertaking. I think she'll do great, though, regardless.

I think it will probably be "live" during filming, instead of pre-recorded. The new movie "Les Miserables" is one in which the singing is live during filming and not pre-recorded and it is said that singing "live" adds a spontaneous feel.
