Re: Does AI remind you of The Hunger Games?

I haven't read the book, or seen the movie yet. My son has read all the books and saw the movie and he loves them. I will probably read the books at some point.

Suzanne Collins came with the idea of The Hunger Games saga while watching a reality show and a young people competition which I don't doubt could be American Idol.  Despite the movie is good I strongly suggest to read the books.

AI is  lot less like The Hunger Games than most other reality shows -

these contestants become really close friends and they don't get to knock the competition out of the game, like they do on Survivor and all the other shows where the contestants get to decide who leaves - (forcing them to form alliances) and to strategize, lie etc  with the others.

and I have only read the books - I suppose I will see the movie.  The books were good.

I think the books are always going to be better.  But, the casting of the movie was pretty incredible, and Lenny Kravitz as Cinna was an inspired choice.

Actually I heard on Jeopardy that the book is based on reality shows.

Suzanne Collins said that when she got inspired for the book, she was flipping between a reality show and war coverage in Iraq lol... it's kind of a crazy to get inspired.

And it is best to keep the producers/sponsors on your side because any time they want they can throw in a curve ball either to help your chances or decrease your chances.

Yup, I was just about to write down the very same thing.

And it was on Teen Jeopardy just the other day...which a 40 year old male like me still watches. :smileyvery-happy:

But, before all that, there was Stephen King`s The Running Man ( he wrote under the pen-name of Richard Bachman at the  time )...some very interesting similarities to that book.

ROFL.

Yeah, the male equivalent of Effie Trinket.

Just what we need, lol, Randy replacing "dawg" with, "May the odds be ever in your favor!". Although a hot stylist like Cinna would be better than those horrifying Tommy Hilfiger segments!

HAHAHAHA...I actually REALLY laughed out loud at this...:smileyvery-happy::smileyvery-happy: :smileyvery-happy: ROFL.....
