David Cook is just as much a "big ol' voice" as he is a "wgwg". It seems people forget or have not see his performances. "Billy Jean"(big voice here)."Music of the Night", and "First Time Ever I saw Your Face"---all these were great performances by Cook on AI7 done without a guitar. Of course, he did "Hello" and "Little Sparrow" with a guitar and those two are memorable performances. The latter, he made a respectful version of and it could have easily crossed over to country---because he is just that versatile.
If a big voice or a screamer had been winning since his season, he might have been lumped in with them instead. Poor David, that's what he gets for being a multi-talented artist.
I do believe that Jason Castro from AI7 fits the wgwg grouping a little better (he was top 4 I believe).Jason , by the way , is doing rather well in Asia. He was my second favorite from that season.
I must say that Phillip was not one of my favorites, but will not say he is not talented. I still believe he is most like Lee Dewyze. I got Lee's CD from before he was on AI and it is really good. I don't believe that this show always brings out the best of the artists ability.

Do care when that white guy with a guitar is not called on issues that the judges call other contestants on. Pitch anyone???? Do care when I just personally posted for weeks until the very end that "I don't get him" for whatever reasons and now all of a sudden not only is he the winner but also read posts about his artistry and being true to himself and so on and so forth. So I guess that makes me wonder what I didn't see or hear all those weeks I didn't get him until, as I said, the very end. Just makes me question from whom did he get all his votes? From fans of those contestants who finally had to leave the competition??? From viewers who voted just on finale night based on the finale night performances??? Or was his fan base so huge to begin with????
Actually, it's really not important cause the facts are that he got the most votes. And he is this year's 11th winner. BUT since I didn't get him for most of his run, I really do hope he has a post Idol successful album to put this WGWG concept to an end. Cause I really also do believe if he doesn't then typing those 4 letter abbreviations will also imply perhaps some strong negative connotations.
I will say that I loved his audition. I thought he just oozed music. However, in the earlier weeks, I voted for Erika, Shannon, and Elise, because I felt like people weren't "getting" them, and I thought they deserved more time to get noticed. After Shannon and Erika were gone, my votes went to Elise and Skylar. I liked both Phillip and Colton, but thought they didn't really NEED my votes. Once Elise and Skylar were gone, all my votes went to Phillip. Even tho' I didn't vote for him the entire season, I did enjoy his performances, and thought the show would have been kind of boring without him.

The face of the show has changed from being about discovering talent and helping them to develop to a circus (complete with clown outfits courtesy of Steven and Randy). I don't know if that has skewed the results or not, but it would be interesting if someone could trace exactly when it started to happen and how it correlates to the type of winner we are getting.
I wonder when those decisions are made.
It sounds like Jennifer is really busy this year and fitting Idol into that schedule might not work. After two seasons what does or will Steven bring in season 3 (for him)? It would seem drastic to get rid of all 3 but Randy frustrates me by calling the ladies by male terms and his "style" brings nothing new, only frustration.
And to answer the thread title it still is amazing that Phillip was never in the bottom 3. His Style of music must be the demographic of American Idol viewers/voters so I have less problems with the WGWG than I use to. He "EARNED IT" by his performances the final 3 weeks!!
My fear is, once again Randy will be the only returning judge. His "personality" has worn VERY thin for me. He speaks like a teen from "the hood" and it irritates me to no end. It is not "cool", it does not show pride in his culture, it simply makes him look ignorant. He adds very little to the show and virtually nothing to the contestants. His time has come to move on
You obviously haven't talked to many "teens from the hood" if you think they sound like Randy lol

I didn't say he was GOOD at it, I said he tried.
He's an old man trying to sound like a "cool" dude from back in the day and it just looks ridiculous

Well, didn't LMFAO predict the winner when they performed? I heard them pretty clearly -- they said over and over:
WGWG WGWG WG Yeah!!!
WGWG WGWG WG Yeah!!!

If you play their song backwards, I am pretty sure they say "WGWG forever, WGWG for the win"
