If you were a mentor, what advice would you give this top 6 now?

Elise, I would agree with Jimmy that she should pick only rock songs as I think this genre best suits her vocals and choose a song well known to the Idol viewers and charge it up both vocal and stage wise.

Jessica, again I would somewhat agree with Jimmy that she needs to pick a song she can emotionally relate to.  And if not relate to, at least understand what the song is about so she can sing it with her soul and not concentrate on getting it vocally correct.

Philip, I would suggest he review his performance videos or practice in front of a mirror and make an effort to control his facial expressions.  Also feel he needs to move around the stage.

Skylar, stick to country and be as classic country as you like cause that twang in your vocals is best suited for that

Hollie, just keep doing what you did this past week

Joshua, pick soulful songs but don't feel you need to go overboard.  Let your vocals tell the message.

My signature? Whitney's "Greatest Love Of All." Some are fortunate and learn that early in life. Me, it took decades.

Elise: Pick songs that show off your voice... not Alicia Keys and other difficult songs that are not your style. also tone down the bouncing on stage

Jessica: Be more expressive on stage. Make us feel what you're singing. Pick maybe some easier, relatable songs with meaningful lyrics. wear less diva-ish clothes and more stuff a teenager would wear

Joshua: Tone down the vocal acrobatics..

Hollie: Sing better and dont be so stiff on stage

Philip: Ill keep this to myself

Skylar: sing with more passion and soul. high energy is good, but not for every performance

[ Edited ]

Elise- The only thing I have to say to her is- Song selection. Other than that I think she's coming along nicely.

Joshua- I've said this before, I don't want to go to church on every performance, but I still love him though..

Skylar- I don't know what to say because what I don't like she can't change- twang and loudness.

Hollie- You;re doing it already, improving with the confidence and connecting more. Keep it up!

Jessica- Again, not much to say, I'm just not finding any emotion or connecting with her performances. And to add, I'm finding her voices is getting kind of low and I don't like that. It's obviously just a preference thing on my part.

Phillip- Nothing much at all, what you've been doing has kept you out of the bottom all this time. I thought he improved this week however, so I guess I can say, keep it up!

Re: If you were a mentor, what advice would you give this top 6 now?

Elise: Get the impression you love the soul songs, and me too, for me, for you... (Like that? Put a little RJack into it). But in the shortened format with one or two shots to impress voters, you need to come out rockin' again for at least one song a night.

Phil: You are who you are, but maybe try something a little out of the box. Maybe a simple little ballad, accompanied just by your guitar. Even Dave Matthews sings some soft ones. The ladies love it.

Skylar: You have some momentum, you're gold on stage, you've shown you can do the siren song. Now maybe stray once in a while from the straight country like you did at first, and give us a little classic southern rock or honky tonk blues, for those who aren't sold on classic country or country pop.

Joshua: Now that you're doing 2 a night, definitely make sure that one has a more modern feel like your Bruno Mars effort. But this time, maybe change up an arrangement so it's a surpise--unexpected and modern cool.

Jessica: Know you're trying to avoid the diva trap, and good for you, but don't lose the pretty part of your voice either. Find a song that features that beautiful melodic sound so captivating at the beginning of your run, even if it is uptempo.

Hollie: You're moving in the right direction, but stop thinking about this as a contest. Start thinking about how you want to be seen on stage in your own right and give us a defined style once in a while rather than focusing so much on impressive notes, or checking the boxes on last week's comment card.
