Who puts these shows together?
I mean American Idol is so musically out of date and backward, it's patheteic.
AI sets music back 50 years! That's Right. Who decides on these old fashioned archaic shows?
Last week the theme was rehashing past idolers rehashing older music.
Now this week they do The Beatles! A lot of people don't even know who they are.
Next week are they going to do songs from B&W TV shows from the 50's?
Thats Right kids :::: there really was B&W TV ::::
Oh and B&W stands for black ands white, just in case some of you dinna know !
So, who decides the music themes from week to week?
A communtiy Activity Director for a Senior's Citizen Home, who wears a baseball cap backwards?
When will American Idol enter the 21st Century of music :::: In 2063?

Anyone who doesn't know who the Beatles are just hasn't been raised right. ![]()

I think the idea is to take older songs and try to make them current and put their own spin on them. I'd love to see an Eagles week, and a Justin Timberlake week(2 very different eras) but the contestants can make either of them sound like they could be a hit right now if they are good. Michael Buble has had a huge career singing big band era songs. How old a song is doesn't matter. I think it's more about just some newer material(we have done a lot of Beatles since season 7 I think), and the contestants being able to pick better songs. Last week they had a pretty open "theme". They could do anything current from any Idol from 11 years, or even a lot of great covers the Idols did. Instead they mostly chose coronation songs, which I think was a very bad choice.

You know, modern artists do know music from the greats of the past, and a good song is a good song no matter when written.
The Beatles catalogue is vast and diverse. What happens behind the scenes in terms of pushing them toward songs I don't know. 'But for the most part, I thought the contestants handled it well tonight and put some fresh modern flavor on their choices.
And for example,. Burnell singing a song he didn't know added a modern flavor that totally worked for me.
If they're going to sing covers, why sing covers of artists that they're almost destined to copy because they know them so well and model themselves after these artists of today? Out there in the real world, they're going to sing songs nobody ever heard before.
I don't want week after week of the current Hot 100. It's just as repetitive and boring as the old songs themes if not more. We've already heard plenty Beyonce. Let's see what they can do with songs that have stood the test of time and might not be so familiar. It takes a good ear, good judgment and some creativity in song choice, arrangement and delivery.

Having to LOL at the original post
... the rehashing already rehashed old songs bit made me chuckle.
B&W TV Shows? Really?
Let's see ...
The Addams Family
The Beverly Hillbillies
Gilligan's Island
The Doris Day Show (?) "Que Sera Sera"
Howdy Doody
This should prove interesting ![]()

I hope Burnell does the Addams Family theme song. Maybe all that finger-snapping will give him something to do with his hands.![]()

I still want a Rob Thomas week or a Dave Matthews week (with P2 as the mentor. muahahahahahahaha). I mean the nineties in general could be very cool. They rarely do the nineties unless it was the year they were born because these kids are so frickin young, and even then it's pretty restrictive.
