Season 12 General Discussion

A lot of people miss WGWGs and "rocker" contestants. But seriously I've probably seen about 50 threads this season complaining about the lack of rockers. If I took a shot for each thread that popped up, I'd be dead by now. I mean come on, you guys had FIVE STRAIGHT SEASONS of triumph, isn't it time someone else had a shot? Us fans of r&b and pop have had very little to brag about during that time, but it happens. Long and the short of it is, please cool it with the complaining. My favorites didn't make the top 10 either, but the singers this season are all talented.

I have to agree that it's time for a change.  Even though my all-time favorite is in the WGWG/rocker catagory, it certainly isn't my only kind of music that I like. Just give me a great vocal, some personality, and good stage presence and I will start listening. Right now, Candice is doing all that. I think it's a shame when we don't broaden our musical tastes.

Just speaking for myself:

I understand the frustration with threads about the lack of WGWG and rocker contestants.  But ya know what?  Those seasons when WGWG was winning there were plenty of threads complaining about it and some people were actually expressing their opinion that they were not deserving, which is fine... that is their opinion.   I believe there were still some people talking about a WGWG coming out of nowhere and taking it this year (correct me if I'm wrong).

It's not just that there is a slim chance of WGWG/rocker winning this year.  There is no chance with the lack of WGWG/rocker representation.  Through the years I've loved watching the WGWG/rocker perform but I didn't necessarily want "him" to win and didn't always vote for "him".   As a matter of fact, I've only power voted 2 years, the year of Bo and the year of Phillip.  It's just that the lack of these contestants seems so contrived that it makes some of us fans of these types of contestants mad.  And if people felt like they couldn't complain about what is making them mad, they would have less reason to come around. 

I'm pulling for Kree this year, but if I felt like I weren't welcome to talk about something that tugs at my heart the way this does, I probably would just sit this year out altogether (which I've been sorely tempted to do).  So please... just put up with us, disagree with us, ignore us, whatever you need to do... just don't expect us to be quiet.  And for the record, I know no one is telling me to shut up, it just kinda feels that way.

I agree with you. It's been a while since a girl won Idol, not to mention someone who isn't white. Seems kind of unfair to me.

I'm not a big WGWG fan (the only one 2 I can say I was truly glad who won were David Cook and Kris Allen...and really...it was only because they were both the perceived underdogs that I gravitated toward voting for them in the finale...I had been supporting the female contestants until they dropped out that year).  If Adam had won...I would have been fine with it and truly expected it to happen. 

But, I agree that the manipulation this year to exclude any rockers or WGWG was too blatant to ignore.  I'm pretty sure whoever wins will deserve it, perhaps more than any rocker or WGWG that was left on the wayside so we could have mediocre guys in the top 10 guys offering little competition even to the less than great girls.  And as much as I am tired of the WGWG, I am equally if not more tired of the pretty girls with pretty voices who all look and sound the same.  Thats why I'm rooting for Candice and Kree this year.  They are pretty and have pretty voices but they have something extra to offer in my opinion...charisma...emotion...the [_] factor...soul...whatever you want to call it.  I would be rooting for them even if the ultimate WGWG was in the contest...it would just make the show more interesting to me if some of the men actually had something special to offer like a James Durbin or there was a rocker girl like Elise or Gina Glocksen.   

And, this is a forum for people to voice their opinions.  The OP has one...I have another.  Just as there is room for all kinds of music, there is room for all kinds of respectfully posted opinions.

ANY complaint that is repeated ad nauseum here is annoying to me. For me the complaints about a girl winner are number one on that annoying list..

One more thing I wanted to mention..Rockers and WGWG are not in the same category/genre. The wgwg's have been winning, NOT the rockers.
