Hey folks...well, tonight's will be not only my final review of the season but my final review on this site. I will most likely only be posting my reviews on my own website next season in more of a blog-type format. My sincere thanks to those of you who have been loyal readers on this board from season two till now...if you'd like to join me next season, you will always be able to find me via my profile. And I'd be more than happy to have you!
Now...on to the Davids!
Darci Monet's

LET'S GET READY TO RRRRUUUUUUUMMMMMBBBBLLLLLEEEE!!!
Okay, all the respect in the world for the announcer, but this boxing thing is way cheesy. And I'll bet Syesha was relieved NOT to have to have her weight announced to the whole world tonight. UGH...they didn't forego the "mosh pit" even for tonight??? Someone had better dive into it tonight. Surriously. ![]()
ROUND ONE - CLIVE DAVIS' CHOICE
DAVID "BABYCAKES" ARCHULETA won the coin toss and he's chosen to go second. So up first is DAVID "SUGARFOOT" COOK and Clive's chosen "I Still Haven't Found What I've Looking For" by U2 for D.C. And for once, the sound is decent (thank you, Jesus!). And do my eyes deceive me? Is the band ON THE STAGE, TOO???
So D.C. did his usual on-pitch, solid job. He didn't trick out the arrangement, but chose to let the song lie as it was (or maybe he just didn't have time) and he instead opted to not mimic Bono best he could. He doesn't get swallowed by a large theater, either. He looks at home on a big stage. I liked it. Good. Like he nearly always is.
JustJo: I liked it. That's all.
DAVID "BABYCAKES" ARCHULETA is up with a song I am sick to death of (and one a good friend of mine sings his face off on), "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me." And I have to say he is singing his little boo-tay off!!! YAY, what a nice surprise! This is the most energized performance I have seen him do all season. You can tell he is STOKED to be there tonight. It actually gave me goosebumps and I'm still astounded by the measure of control he has over his voic

...cont'd...
ARCHIE is singing a song called "In This Moment"...and I already know this is going to be a stack of over-syruped pancakes. And no one's gonna take that stack of pancakes away from him. Did you get that? NO ONE. Okay, I hate the song. But I'll give Archie the props for knowing what he does well, although his adrenaline seems to be taking over a little on this song and he too seemed to get a little shaky during this round. However, I think this will also sound great recorded. It was a good choice for his voice, anyway. And I do feel like he's REALLY trying to win tonight. I am NOT entirely sure, however, who won this round (despite Simon giving Babycakes two for two). It's a toss up for me. ![]()
JustJo: The song made me wanna yak, but his vocals were outstanding. I would never buy that single. Like EVER. And yeah, are we at I-Hop for the All You Can Eat pancake special? That shiznit got FOUR DIFFERENT KINDS of syrup on it! ![]()
ROUND THREE - CONTESTANT'S CHOICE
So SUGARFOOT has chosen "The World I Know" by Collective Soul. And I dunno if this is a good choice (even before he's started)...it's not a "competition song", per se. Let's see how he does. Well...I like that he never sings exactly what's on the record and I thought the arrangement showed off as much of his vocal prowess as possible...but I don't know if it's enough. Like I said, it's just not an appropriate "competition song". But don't ask me what I'd suggest for him, cuz I don't know. Except something more in-your-face, probably. Something super ballsy and probably more up-tempo. Something that woulda blown the roof off the joint. Unless he's choosing to NOT WIN cuz it might be a better option for him as an artist. Stranger things have happened. *coughDaughtrycough* Oh but then he cried. So what do I know? ![]()
JustJo: Well...I'm pretty sure he's gonna get the Torturned Artist trophy. And every trophy winner needs a trophy wife...that's all I gotta say.
BABYCAKES is up with a repeat of "Imagine," which I should have placed bets on. And when he's finished, this is still my favorite of all the songs he's done all season. He just really REALLY sings that beautifully. Not much more to expound upon there. Round three to Archie, again. ![]()
JustJo: He's the best thing that's happened to that song, thank gawd...he makes it modern and fresh again. I just know that there's a "real-life" equivalent of Mr. Burns lurking behind the curtains salivating at the thought of how much money the re-release of "Imagine" can make for his record label. That could be a world-wide hit AGAIN.
Well...I think if people are voting based on the best overall tonight (and I know they aren't), it has to go to David Archuleta. And I won't be mad about it. I have m

Great review!!
This is my last year posting reviews to this site too. Weird. But you'll be missed, I know. And I'll look for you through your profile for next year!

Darci:
I have loved coming here and reading your reviews each week. Yours are the best because you stick to the singing skills and performances, without getting caught up in the "rumor of the day" or showing bias either towards or against any one contestant. I also love the humor injected by both you and JustJo, and look forward to following your reviews on your new site. With you gone, I probably won't even bother reading the recaps here in the future, since they usually aggravate me.
David A left his heart on that stage last night, and showed us how much he wants to win. He was brilliant! Both of these guys have worked hard and both will be successful in their genres, so both of them are winners regardless of what happens tonight. For me, I'm proud of little David, the way he performed under such enormous pressure. Every one of his songs tonight left me in tears, even that cheesy "coronation" song.

Darci,
Great review as always! I will have to look for your blog next season since your recap is the best.

I have to disagree on Archie's verison of Imagine being the best thing to happen to that song.
The lyrics of the song are the important part, it's the message the song has. Archie takes it and tries to make the production more important than the message.
Basically, he would rather have people be like "OMG he sounds soooooo amazing" rather than "wow, that's a powerful song."
He did a MAJOR disgrace to John Lennon.

Darci, I think I've been reading you for three seasons now! You'll be missed...
I actually had more fun watching the show this year, than reading the boards, I think I'm getting old...hehehe.
Enjoy. and Take Care.

My son said that he wants Cookie to lose so that he'll put out a cd that he would buy.
Archie will be the next Disney Star. They will be crazy if they don't get him.
by-the-by I know where to find you.
